Leah Taylor and I are working together to provide quality Bible Study materials that we can share with you and your churches. She comes up with all the brainy, spiritual stuff, and one of my jobs is to make it look pretty. But to me, everything I have an opportunity to do, I want it done with thought and with intention. So here is the thought process behind the design of the “LOVE” logo:
FONT: AvantGarde Bold.
I wanted something simple and bold; because that is exactly what Christ’s love is toward us. This also helps the other design elements standout in contrast to its simplicity. I put a shiny glare on it because his mercies are NEW everyday! HEART: It seemed a little cliche to make a design out of the “O” in love. It just seemed like something every other designer would do. I wanted something a little more original (because we are talking about the creator of all the universe in this topic.) So, I made “V” the lucky letter to receive my creative touch. It also helped that V is very close to the shape of a heart. And there is just no separating the shape of a heart when depicting love. It’s impossible…I tried.
Because we are splitting the lesson up in the three sections: Father, Son, Spirit–I wanted to depict this in the logo. Using the cutout of a cross (portraying the ultimate cost of Christ’s Love) I trisected the heart into three parts. Using bold, bright colors to represent each.
The logo was complete…or was it? Yes, it depicted Christ’s love, but for some reason, I didn’t feel that it accomplished it’s goal. It didn’t show any action on our part. God called us to carry out His love as a witness to His work. The radio waves start from the center of this heart and radiate out–just as our witness should radiate out into the world as we tell our story to the lost. This life of sacrifice is our “reasonable service” as Christians to live out the love that Christ showed us.
